Asbestos Awareness Week 2025

This week, 17 to 23 November, is Asbestos Awareness Week!

Every year, approximately 220 people in New Zealand die from diseases caused by past asbestos exposure, many of which could have been prevented with proper asbestos management.

The purpose of Asbestos Awareness Week is to increase knowledge and understanding of the dangers that asbestos poses and how to appropriately manage these risks, particularly for those who work with and around it on a daily basis.

The recent discovery of asbestos fibres in kinetic sand seems to have greatly raised public awareness of the risks of asbestos exposure and sparked a lot of discussion about it.

It is crucial that we continue to highlight the serious health risks associated with asbestos exposure, as well as how to maintain best practices in asbestos management, in order to reduce the number of people at risk.
