NZS 8510 Review: Have Your Say

Standards New Zealand is inviting public feedback on the draft revised standard for testing and decontamination of methamphetamine-contaminated properties.
The review of NZS 8510:2017 aims to reflect current scientific evidence and align the standard with regulatory changes introduced in April 2026.
The proposed revision, DZ 8510:2026, seeks to support a risk-based and proportionate approach to managing methamphetamine residue in residential properties.
Why Does It Matter?
The revised standard aims to improve clarity and promote practical, evidence-based approaches to methamphetamine contamination.
The proposed changes are relevant to:
- Property managers and landlords
- Tenants and housing providers
- Insurers
- Methamphetamine testing and decontamination professionals
- Other professionals involved in residential property management
The consultation focuses on the draft standard itself, not the regulations or testing levels introduced in April 2026.

Industry professionals and other interested parties are encouraged to review the draft standard and submit their feedback through the official consultation portal.
Consultation closes: 7 December 2026.
