The Final Healthy Homes Standards Deadline has Officially come into Effect

Today is July 1st, and the final Healthy Homes Standards deadline has officially come into effect. From today, all private rental properties in New Zealand must meet the full legal requirements of the Healthy Homes Standards.

This includes compliance across heating, insulation, ventilation, moisture ingress and drainage, and draught stopping – all of which must be compliant before a property can be rented.

Let’s all take a moment to reflect on what a massive undertaking this has been. Over the past six years, hundreds of thousands of Healthy Homes assessments have been carried out across the country.  Heating appliances have been installed, insulation upgraded, ventilation improved, and countless properties brought up to standard – all in the name of making New Zealand rental properties warmer, drier, and healthier.

It’s been an unprecedented effort from landlords, property managers, tradespeople, and compliance professionals alike. Reaching this point hasn’t been easy – but it’s a milestone worth recognising.
